About FORE
The civilization society of the 20th century can be described as an "era of destroying forests and distancing from nature," where humanity damaged forests and nature. In modern times, where concerns are raised about the loss of the foundation for human survival due to global warming and declining biodiversity, it has become urgent to prevent the reduction and degradation of tropical forests and to transform into a sustainable civilization that maximizes the laws and powers of nature, such as Nature-based Solutions.
Moving forward, we must transition into an "era of protecting forests and connecting with them." At the FORESTING Research Institute (FORE), we pursue "FORESTING" (people coexisting with forests and nature) to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society.
Specifically, 47 years after first proposing the broad concept of forestry known as 'holistic forestry,' which is now gradually becoming a reality, we aim to lead the valuation of nature and forests by creating various forms of business that protect and utilize the multiple benefits provided by forests and nature (ecosystem services). This includes the development of PES (Payments for Ecosystem Services) and forest service industries that leverage cultural ecosystem services and environmental markets. To this end, we collaborate with overseas universities and research institutions to advance research and development, as well as practical activities, in innovative ecosystem service businesses, PES, and ‘holistic forestry’. Additionally, we engage in policy advice for people to coexist with forests and nature, as well as practical environmental education and public awareness initiatives.
Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to restoring the appropriate connections between various people and forests and nature from diverse perspectives.
