In the June 2022 issue of Green Power Magazine's web edition of "From the World's Forests to the SDGs," an article titled "How to Bring About Social Change to Realize the SDGs?" (1) was published. 2019 Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Global Assessment Report states that it is impossible to achieve the SDGs without transformative change. In this paper, focusing on the contents discussed at the international symposium on the theme of "Transformative Change and Forestry for Building a Sustainable Society" held in October 2021 and the argument of Dr. Kai Chan, the lead co-author of Chapter 5 invited to the symposium, it is discussed why "transformative change" is necessary to protect forests/landscapes and their indispensable contributions to their people (ecosystem services), and explains what can be done.
